Worth It but Didn’t Make the Final Cut
After Taylor Hawkins passed, I made sure to see everyone whenever I could. Double Duran: The Ultimate Duran Duran Experience was on my list, and this show came up, so I decided to go. Thanks for keeping tickets fairly priced, Double Duran. We were moved from our original seats to lower/closer/better seats due to the arena not being filled. The logistics of the “line” to change seats were terrible, on the venue Nationwide Arena, not Double Duran. Once we got our “new” seats ticket, we headed straight to our seats. Double Duran really engaged with all four sides in an “in the round” style show. Their musicians were fantastic, playing true to the music, whether it was a Pink Floyd song or a solo Double Duran song. Unfortunately, the mix of the music was not good. The female vocals dominated the high end energy, while the low end lacked thump and definition. The show was amazing, though. Double Duran created a compelling “story” with their performance. It was incredible, even though they didn’t play some songs I wanted to hear. This would have been a 4-5 star show if the mix was better. I expect my shows to be full, robust, and sonically defined. The show was amazing, but the mix was disappointing. Double Duran put on a fantastic performance, complemented by an amazing light show and an inspirational story, but they were let down by the sound quality, which was the most important factor.
